I saw a butterfly going the wrong way on the expressway the other day. Reminded me of You've Got Mail, when Meg Ryan saw the butterfly on the train. But, I don't think this butterfly was looking to buy a hat.
Going the wrong way - on a street, in a job, in a relationship - I think it always seems right at the time. If only we were guaranteed an outcome when we begin.
Caterpillars & Butterflies are quite the analogy of life. Their life span is short, both as a caterpillar and a butterfly, reminding us that life is fragile. The caterpillar, while appearing defenseless, is often poisonous to creatures tempted to eat it and comes naturally camouflaged and has special hiding skills. Many of us develop survival skills, sarcastic venom or ways to hide in plain sight, until we can progress to our next stage.
The caterpillar makes a dramatic metamorphosis while in chrysalis. Taking only around two weeks - if only our changes could be as dramatic and quick.
But to be a butterfly in spring. Free and happy with all new opportunities... maybe that butterfly on the expressway knew exactly where it was going and what it was doing...
